This research attempts to investigate the socioeconomic and demographic characteristics of young people [in England] who do not use ICT and whether the lack of ICT use is associated with other outcomes of deprivation. In terms of the background characteristics of young people's use of ICT, the report focuses on the following questions: Are there differences in the socioeconomic and other background characteristics of young people who use computers at home with respect to those who do not? Do we find a gender gap, socioeconomic gap, educational gap, or income gap in the use of computers at home? Are there differences in the socioeconomic and other background characteristics of young people who use computers at school? Are there differences in the socioeconomic and other background characteristics of young people who own and use mobile phones?
